In 2011 I began construction of our dream home on the cliffs of the Osage Gorge in Newton County Arkansas. I designed the house around the incredible site and spent 2 years building the place as my full time job. I now live here with my wife and 9 year old son. The Buffalo National River is only 3 miles away, and we enjoy all seasons, hiking, paddling, and swimming in this beautiful park. Follow along on all the cool adventures and fun.

Shed Roof Coming Together
OK , so it's humid as hell. Dont matter what the temp is, I'm whilting. Pressing on though, shed roof is coming along and will be complete by thursday. Railing is inching along and I dont know when I'll be done. I estimate another 40 hours at least. I really want it to be right, and it is now. Next we need to complete the outdoor fireplace chase, install the vinyl windows, and patch up some ext. sheathing. After that its build the ext door and window frames and install fireplaces. When these issues are taken care of, we really move into a differant phase. The mechanics complete the rough-ins and then give it back for me to complete the interior finishes. But I'm getting ahead of myself, one thing at a time my man.

Dog Days Soon Over
The end of summer fast approaches and our days of spending each afternoon on the river swimmin away, are soon to end. Matt and I went to Steele cr. today and it was overflowing with people, so many in fact that we went to another spot in Steele cr. area. which was also full of folks. We jumped in to sample another cool hole of water, and then went to the Bridge. The water at the Bridge was not lookin so good, but the hole just downstream was just right. Lightning ran us away from the swimmin and we headed home. Things really need to cool down, we quit early on friday becouse of the heat, and productivity has sucked in the pm. We did get some things done, the railing is inching along and the shed roof is tied into the main roof closing a major hole. The next two weeks are crucial to get to the next stage, daly about and it wont happen. Tommoroe I have to clean up for the plumber who comes monday. Maybe well get some rain and cool things down.

Searching for Progress in the Shade
Drum roll please, the big awesome party deck is ready for railing and the 5/4 decking material is complete. It is crazy huge! We could start a restraunt and have the most awesome outdoor dining. I will work on the railing next while Scott builds the shed roof over the deck. The plumber starts monday, so I am going to clean up the place this weekend and get ready for the next phase. Also today, we built the outdoor fireplace chase. This is going to be my favorite place, sitting outside in the outdoor den. You will be able to see both the indoor and outdoor fireplaces at the same time from the deck, blending the in and outsides together. My plan is by next friday be completed on the following; Shed roof over deck, deck railing, fireplaces installed and chases complete, all vinyl windows installed, all roofing complete, and the wall sheathing complete. This sounds like alot, but most of these projects are really small and we have 6 days to do it. I brought in the metal for the shed roof today, and all materials are on site to complete these jobs. next will be exterior doors and picture windows.
