In 2011 I began construction of our dream home on the cliffs of the Osage Gorge in Newton County Arkansas. I designed the house around the incredible site and spent 2 years building the place as my full time job. I now live here with my wife and 9 year old son. The Buffalo National River is only 3 miles away, and we enjoy all seasons, hiking, paddling, and swimming in this beautiful park. Follow along on all the cool adventures and fun.

Summer Winding Down
It's the 1st of September and fall is on the way. The air is cooling down quick, theres still a little hot left but I can feel the change. Please let it rain, I know personally of a raindance being held this weekend on the mountain, so let's see how they do. Alot is being done now, small projects that take only hours, not days. Roof is 100% complete, fireplaces are being set and installed, blocking for insulation, windows installed, chases for plumber and hvac work built, and the plumber has been busy roughing it all in. I need to finish the deck railing, and start the window and door frames. Mike the hvac guy came by today and is going to start working in the next few days. The septic system is approved by the state, the man said it was the worst ground he had seen in 5 years. Thank goodness they approved it, the system will just cost more. Soon the electrician will be on site and the mechanical will be wraping up.I think in 3 weeks I could be ready for insulation. I need to be working on the inside no later than 1st of October. One of the 2 best times of the year is approaching , make your way to the mountain fast. SYOTR

Update
OK, This week we will do the following; complete all componants of the entire roof system including all trims and ridges, install the fireplace systems, install vinyl windows, order all plate glass, complete the remaining soffitt and facia, and continue working on the railing. T he weather is supposed to be cooler for a couple days, so maybe we can be very productive. I called the mill, and Scott told me the logs have not been cut yet. So it's going to be awhile longer until we get posts. The plumber is on the job, and the HVAC man is next, yeehaw. Robyns Dad, Jim and his wife Dot came by yesterday to check out the house, and I believe they were very impressed. Jim said it would be like being on vacation everyday living here. I told him that is exactly the way I designed it. The awesome room and deck are what people seem to focus on, and the prevailing sentiment is 'wow'. This area is like one big indoor/outdoor room where you can see everything from every place you might stand or sit. The effect is quite like a treehouse. One of the coolest features is that sitting on the outside deck you will be able to see the indoor fireplace, again blending the outside with the inside. The huge, massive projects are complete for the most part, and now we are doing all the small things to get ready for the next phase. We still have some decks to install, but they are a fraction of what we have done, and it wont take long to complete. Well, it's time to get at it. I'll keep the updates coming, becouse change comes at a rapid fire pace from now on. SYOTR.

Decks and Roofs
Completed alot of small things yesterday, all of it leading up to completion of the entire roof system. At times it seems we are going too slow, but we are constantly making progress. By the middle of next week, Shed roof will be done, vinyl windows installed, fireplaces installed, roof completed around outside fireplace, and railing will be further along. It's time to make decisions on the HVAC and get him on the job. The cooler weather certainly helps productivity, and I will take advantage of it. Whitney, I am so glad the railing is growing on you, Robyn and I think its the highlight of the house right now. It's friday!payday!(for everyone else) time to get back at it. SYOTR hopefully soon!!!

Cool Air
Woke up this morning to wonderful cool air, the creek is still running good from the rain 2 weeks ago, and a breeze is stiring through the trees. Fall is coming, and I cant wait, this old man needs some cooler days to recharge and work hard. The Osage is a very cool creek, even in the summer it runs good with a little rain, and the sound of gurgling water really adds to the mystic of the site. I now know that I will have to come up with a bed on the deck becouse I will have to sleep out there alot. Yep, I will sleep on the deck, wake up and jump in the hot-tub, then take an outdoor shower. How cool will that be?

Shed Roof Coming Together
OK , so it's humid as hell. Dont matter what the temp is, I'm whilting. Pressing on though, shed roof is coming along and will be complete by thursday. Railing is inching along and I dont know when I'll be done. I estimate another 40 hours at least. I really want it to be right, and it is now. Next we need to complete the outdoor fireplace chase, install the vinyl windows, and patch up some ext. sheathing. After that its build the ext door and window frames and install fireplaces. When these issues are taken care of, we really move into a differant phase. The mechanics complete the rough-ins and then give it back for me to complete the interior finishes. But I'm getting ahead of myself, one thing at a time my man.
